UWE Bristol
Dean and Head of Bristol Law School | College of Business and Law

People, purpose and place sit at the heart of UWE Bristol’s Strategy 2030. It is an institution which is always looking to improve – from extending its impact through strategic collaborations and interdisciplinary partnerships, to refining its structures, systems, processes and governance to be faster, more agile and more effective.

Bristol Law School is part of the UWE’s College of Business and Law. Housed in a £55 million building completed in 2017, the College combines a commitment to outstanding teaching and research with a real-world focus on collaboration with business, the professions and the community. It is proud to be at the forefront of the disciplines in which it specialises and is determined that its work promotes ethical practices and has a genuine, lasting impact on the world, as well as equipping all its students for confident and successful futures. Fundamental to the College’s future success will be working closely with other Colleges to deliver relevant teaching and research programmes.

Reporting to the newly appointed PVC & Head of College, Professor Yvonne Beach, the successful candidate will succeed Sarah Grabbam, who is becoming deputy Head of College. A member of the College Executive Team, you will lead a School comprising over 2,000 students and around 70 academic staff.

The Dean and Head of School is a key leadership and management role, shaping strategy for Bristol Law School and ensuring its success. Priorities include: building a collaborative culture, reflecting the wider goals of the College; maintaining growth in teaching and research activities with a focus on quality; and developing the School’s profile, ensuring it is the preferred destination for education and research in legal practice regionally.

Applicants must be enterprising, innovative, inclusive, ambitious and collaborative. They will be able to evidence achievement as empowering, engaging and values-led leaders with emotional intelligence and a commitment to interdisciplinarity. A strategic mindset, combined with an appetite to develop relationships on behalf of the School with internal and external stakeholders, is important.

Applications must include a full CV and a letter of application setting out your interest in the role and details of how your knowledge, skills and experience match the essential criteria (no more than two pages).

Please send applications to uwe@networkedpeople.com – the closing date for receipt of applications is midnight on Sunday 21st May 2023.

UWE Bristol particularly encourages applications from Black, Asian, Multiple Heritage or Other Minority Ethnic candidates as it is currently under-represented in these areas.
