UWE Bristol
Dean for Research and Enterprise | College of Business and Law

People, purpose and place sit at the heart of UWE Bristol’s Strategy 2030. It is an institution which is always looking to improve – from extending its impact through strategic collaborations and interdisciplinary partnerships, to refining its structures, systems, processes and governance to be faster, more agile and more effective.

The College of Business and Law comprises over 300 academic staff and 9,000 students. Housed in a £55 million building completed in 2017, the College combines a commitment to outstanding teaching and research with a real-world focus on collaboration with business, the professions and the community. It is proud to be at the forefront of the disciplines in which it specialises and is determined that its work promotes ethical practices and has a genuine, lasting impact on the world, as well as equipping all its students for confident and successful futures. Fundamental to the College’s future success will be working closely with other Colleges to deliver relevant teaching and research programmes.

Reporting to the newly appointed PVC & Head of College, Professor Yvonne Beach, undertaking a strategic role in the development and realisation of the research strategy for the University, the Dean for Research and Enterprise will provide institutional and College leadership to achieve research excellence, maximise impact and income as well as driving innovation and enterprise partnerships and collaborations nationally and internationally. You will lead College and cross-university initiatives that make a significant contribution to the achievement of the University’s key strategic and performance objectives.

As a member of the College Executive Team, you will have responsibility for the development and delivery of the College research and enterprise plan. You will monitor its effectiveness to maximise research performance and develop an ambitious and inclusive research culture which is aligned to the University’s research ambitions and values.

You will lead and support the development of existing and new strategic research partnerships, working collaboratively across Colleges to capitalise on interdisciplinary opportunities. You will also represent the University at key external networks, developing, promoting and showcasing the profile and reputation of the College and the University at local, regional, national and international levels.

Applicants must be enterprising, innovative, inclusive, ambitious and collaborative. They will be able to evidence achievement as empowering, engaging and values-led leaders with emotional intelligence and a commitment to interdisciplinarity.

Applications must include a full CV and a letter of application setting out your interest in the role and details of how your knowledge, skills and experience match the essential criteria (no more than two pages).

Please send applications to uwe@networkedpeople.com – the closing date for receipt of applications is midnight on Monday 13th February 2023.

UWE Bristol particularly encourages applications from Black, Asian, Multiple Heritage or Other Minority Ethnic candidates as it is currently under-represented in these areas.
